About Jay Thompson – Former Designated Broker & co-owner, Thompson’s Realty
EDITOR’S NOTE: We are leaving this page as a tribute to our friend, Jay Thompson. Jay is now enjoying his time living in Seattle with his lovely bride Francy. He spends a lot of time walking the streets taking interesting pictures. While Jay is no longer the owner and man behind The Phoenix Real Estate Guy, Jay is, and always will be, a big part of everything that happens here. ( read more about the ownership change of the Phoenix Real Estate Guy site, here. )
Jay, as we affectionately call him, is the grand-daddy of real estate blogging. This site would not be here without Jay. So we are leaving this page, so you can know more about our friend and the man who started it all.
Jay is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.
Not really, and to be honest I’m not even sure what that means. Winston Churchill said it in reference to Russia in an October 1939 radio broadcast. I’ve always used it to describe things that aren’t easily explained. Perplexing things. Odd things.
OK, so maybe that is me. . .
Here is my “speaker bio” — those succinct little pieces of text that are supposed to describe you completely in the few sentences that can fit in a side-column, or on some panel moderators 3 x 5 card:
Jay Thompson was the Designated Broker and a co-owner of Thompson’s Realty — an independent real estate brokerage based in Phoenix, Arizona. Thompson’s Realty had agents across the Phoenix Metro area as well as a branch office in Tucson, AZ.
He is a self-professed “Man with a blogging problem”. Jay founded the real estate blog Phoenix Real Estate Guy in May 2005 and developed it into one of the most widely read real estate blogs in the country. Jay writes about local real estate and current events, and often explores state, regional and national issues related to real estate. Additionally, Jay is known to go wildly off-topic with his “random musings”. Jay also contributes (occasionally) to national real estate blogs such as the HomeGain Blog and GeekEstate Blog. He is also a serial blog commenter and social media fan boy.
Phoenix Real Estate Guy was recognized by Inman Real Estate New as the Most Innovative Real Estate Blog in 2009.
Jay has also been named multiple times to Inman’s Most Influential Real Estate Blogger list and is widely recognized as one of the top users of social media in real estate. He has spoken at numerous local, state and national real estate and social media conferences and is registered and licensed by the Arizona Department of Real Estate to teach Continuing Education classes on social media marketing and prospecting.
Jay graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management.
He also likes loud classic rock-n-roll, drives too fast, and enjoys watching his beloved Denver Broncos and Texas Longhorn football teams. Jay often dreams of one day playing in — and winning — the World Series of Poker Main Event.
