Beginning next Saturday (May 22, 2010), that bastion of downtown Gilbert dining, Joe’s Real BBQ, begins serving breakfast.
Joe, Tad and company opened the doors today for a little sneak preview of the new breakfast menu. Quite a few folks were invited in to test out the menu and help Joe’s work out the kinks.
Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out, and given the quality of the regular fare at Joe’s Real BBQ, I was expecting the breakfast outing to be a real treat.
And I was not disappointed.
I had the “Big Breakfast Plate” with scrambled eggs, bacon, brisket hash, a biscuit and breakfast potatoes.
Francy ordered up “Joe’s Mother Lode Burrito” which is a big (really big) burro stuffed with brisket hash, eggs and cheese and smothered in house sausage gravy.
My daughter Lauren opted for the Biscuits and Gravy plate. Both my ladies got a side of Raspberry Bread Pudding.
All of our food was outstanding. I was particularly fond of the thick cut and smoked bacon and the brisket hash. Francy proclaimed she could eat a shoe if it was covered in the sausage gravy and Lauren simply said, “If you want to try these biscuits and gravy you better hurry”.
A friend of mine said the “Downtown Baked Eggs” were excellent, and others raved about yogurt parfait with fruit and homemade granola and the blueberry cream cheese coffee cake. The Big Breakfast Burrito also got high marks from those in attendance.
The menu has a great selection, including a nifty “BYOB” section ”“ Build Your Own Breakfast. Portions are plentiful and prices reasonable.
Here is the menu for Joe’s Real BBQ Breakfast (PDF) .

I’m going to go way out on a limb and predict it will be a smashing success. We’ll definitely be back.

Were the breakfast offerings particular salty? I find myself limiting my meals at Liberty Market because of that, although they taste GREAT.
Not that I noticed Tyler. Well, maybe the bacon, but that's sort of the nature of bacon. But I like salty food, so my taste buds may be more forgiving… or less discerning…
Oh, it's not that my TASTE BUDS mind, it's the waistline and doctor.
Looks like I'll have to find out for myself. Yum.
Thanks for posting the menu! Chris & I are sitting here trying not to drool on my keyboard. We'll definitely be going out for a Joe's breakfast soon!
Joe's Real BBQ is simply great comfort food fast at a reasonable price.
Jay I was in your neighborhood yesterday (sort of). I was out there visiting family they took me to the chuck burger in Tempe. If this bbq place you are talking about is anywhere near as good then I will have to try it next time I'm in town.
Biscuits and gravy…yum…reminds me of when I lived in Texas.
Sounds like a good time was had by all! What a geat idea! We should do something like that hear!
I lived in Gilbert for a while back in 2006 and Joe's was one of my favorite places! Love the neighborhood it is in also!
