We are three today!

Thompsons-realty-third-birthdayThree years ago today we opened the doors at Thompson’s Realty.

Well, we don’t really have doors, but you know what I mean.

I’ll never forget what my broker at the time said to us when Francy and I told him we were venturing out on our own”¦

You’re going to open a real estate brokerage in this market? I wish you well, but it will never last.

He is a great guy, but he was wrong.

Today we are twenty seven agents strong. We’ve got “offices” in Phoenix and Tucson, and we are doing just fine.

I am so proud of the 27 agents that call Thompson’s Realty home. They are the backbone of our little brokerage. And they work their tails off for their clients. Without them, there would be no Thompson’s Realty. (Of note, despite this sugary ”“ but heartfelt ”“ praise some of you still drive me insane with your late paperwork. Fix that would ya?)

I also can’t thank our clients enough. To put your trust and your faith into a person and a company that is helping you in what is likely the single largest financial transaction you’ll make is not an easy thing to do. Obviously without clients, we would have nothing. You are why we do what we do, and we appreciate you.

Finally, I’d be woefully remiss if I didn’t thank the person that truly makes Thompson’s Realty tick. It’s not our agents, or our clients, or me. It is my lovely and insanely dedicated wife Francy. I can’t even begin to express what she does for this brokerage. Ask any Thompson’s agent who really runs the show ”“ they know it’s Francy. But I don’t think even they fully grasp everything she does. “Office Manager” is her official title, but that doesn’t come close to describing her role and what she puts into this business we are trying to build. Something more like, “Grand Poobah, Master of the Real Estate Universe, and Queen of Brokerage Operations” is more like it. But try fitting that on a business card. She is amazing and I couldn’t hope to have a better business partner, wife or friend.

Three years down, many more to go. Thanks everyone!

    And by the way Jay, I said it in one of the numerous comments our paths have crossed on over the past few days, but thanks for being who you are. You’re an advocate for the industry, us, and your friends. You’ve shown support in so many ways, it would seem ridiculous to count them all.

    You’re looked up to by many bloggers and agents and there’s good reason why. You’re an honest man who shares his honest thoughts and it’s something I certainly appreciate.

    I know who I’d turn to if I needed help.

    I know how ya feel, Jay. You guys have plowed the fields daily. My friends and some family tried valiantly to talk me outa opening up my own shop too, saying I didn’t have the skill sets to run a brokerage. That was 1977. 🙂

    @Darin – that’s a great question. Three years ago “the plan” was for Thompson’s Realty to consist of me, my wife, and a friend of ours. We weren’t going to hire agents. Then within days of the announcement, folks started asking about joining us. We had to completely re-think the plan. And it’s still evolving.

    A comment you made 2 years ago on Agent Genius pushed me out the doors to open my own company…it hit home and off I went. We just turned ONE!

    I had to do a double take Jay. 3 Already?? I must have been following you longer than I think, because I remember your 2nd Birthday and didn’t think it was that long ago!
