Home Owner’s Associations. You’ve got to love them. Right?
No, that’s not right. While some home owners associations can be great and they can help maintain property values, some are just plain idiotic in their overreach. And their transfer fees? Don’t even get me started with their transfer fees and their holier than thou attitude.
Apparently, the Muirfield Village HOA out in Mesa has decided that people can not hang Christmas decorations on their homes. According to this story we saw on Channel 5 “Valley hoa says take down Christmas lights.”
For the first time in the eight years Carole Rector has owned her condo, she got a letter from her HOA that said her Christmas lights are out of line.
“I called the community director and said, ‘Are you serious that I have to take them down?’ And she said yes, that the board had decided no decorations this year.”
It sounds like people have hung Christmas lights there in the past, but the rug has now been pulled out from under anyone who thought they would spread a little Christmas cheer this year. If you live in Muirfield Village, you’ll have to go somewhere else to see homes decorated with Christmas lights. Their next HOA meeting is in January. It will be interesting to see if they try to change this rule, or not.
They say that “to each, their own.” Maybe you don’t like Christmas lights, and you would love to live in Muirfield Village. I have added some Muirfield Village sales information to the bottom of this page. Of course, if you would like to find a home is another neighborhood, just search here. 🙂
Remember, if you want to live in a neighborhood within a home owners association we’ll want to read those CC&R’s before you close…
Merry Christmas, y’all.
