As I was perusing through TheFacebook yesterday, I came across Elizabeth Newlin’s latest adventure.
For those that don’t know Elizabeth, she is a terrific real estate agent for the Best Damn Real Estate Brokerage in Phoenix, one of the best real estate blog writers out there, a mother, a wife and driver of a Giant Orange Van.
And apparently she is also a budding young trapeze artist.
Yeah, trapeze.

While this looks like a tremendous amount of fun, there are ladders involved. Ever since a near paralyzing fall from a ladder years ago (note: take that little sticker on the top step of your ladder that says “DANGER: DO NOT STEP HERE” seriously) yours truly has developed Stepnophobia.
Yes, Stepnophobia is a real word and it means “fear of ladders”. We’re not talking Acrophobia (fear of heights) here. After all, I’ve jumped out of perfectly functional airplanes before. But ladders scare the hell out of me. One step up and I turn into a blubbering idiot.
But my insecurities, fears and weaknesses really aren’t the point.
Actually, there really isn’t much of a point here.
I suppose Elizabeth could turn her new-found skills into a marketing angle:
- “I’ll climb anything to get your home sold!”
- “I’m a Realtor AND a swinger!”
- “We’ll go to great heights to sell your home.”
- “I want to be Your High Flying Realtor for Life!”
Ok, maybe not.
Maybe the point is that Thompson’s Realty has wicked smart agents, who are — without fail — good people, and who like to have a little fun in their very limited down time.
Then again, perhaps this is just some free advertising for a Gilbert, AZ based business ”“ Trapeze U ”“ where you too (assuming you’re not stepnophobic) can learn to use a trapeze and fly through the air with the greatest of ease.
Then there is the distinct probability that I was overdue for posting something, saw this video, thought it was cool and was a chance to pimp one of our agents along with helping the brokerage rank better in Google for “best real estate brokerage in Phoenix”.
But I’d never do that”¦
