This article was originally published on August 24, 2008. While I’m off at a conference I thought I’d share a few of my old favorites. For this one, I randomly picked a month from 2008, which happened to be August. I’ve always loved the video embedded in this post, and found it especially pertinent as my daughter, who was a Freshman at the time this was originally written, is now about to embark on her Senior year in high school..
As the father of a High School Freshman and Junior, I found this video very interesting. It was put together by a Cultural Anthropology class at Kansas State University in the Spring 2007 semester. This video has over 2.6 million views on YouTube.
For me, one of the more compelling quotes was, “When I graduate I will probably have a job that doesn’t exist today”.
Food for thought…
After watching the video for the first time the one thing that stands out to me is one of the signs that says “I did not create the problem”. That holds so true for the debate that is going on now with our US budget.
My grand children did not spend the trillions of dollars but they will pay for it.Is this causing them not have the chances to succeed that I had? I believe it is.
Thank you for posting this video–it is great to see that even a few years later the video still holds true–and the video is definitely powerful.
I love this video too. I saw it for the first time several years ago, but have watched it a handful of times at random times since then.
One of the quotes was about $100 textbooks that they never open. Well, I hope the new amazon textbook program can kill that problem..
Great video, hadn’t seen it before.
I am so fascinated by this statement “When I graduate I will probably have a job that doesn’t exist today”. Students now days are more productive in their own way.
