I’m not really a Tigers fan. More of an anti-Yankee fan.
I was there in person for Game 2 of the Diamondbacks / Yankees series in 2001. Saw Ray Charles sing “America the Beautiful“, then watched Randy Johnson shut ’em down 4 – 0.
I just about threw up watching BK Kim serve up late inning game-losing homers in subsequent games.
The the thrashing in game 6 followed by what may be the best single game in series history capped off of course by Gonzo’s series winning hit in the bottom of the ninth. Makes me tear up just thinking about it.

I am completely a Tiger's fan and and completely excited about the win tonight!
Kinda sorry for sellsius, just because its not nice to brag. And since I am from Detroit, I know very well how much its not fun to lose.
congrats! a well deserved win for detroit. i still love the yankees but it may be time to clean house, reduce the payroll and let the kids play ball. it will be one cold winter for yankee fans.

Good thing I'm an Eagles fan cause that wouldda hurt. Sorry for you rdb
Jay that series in 01 was sweet. Keep in mind that I'm a Phillies fan and always will be. I do also have New York envy so I've never liked the Yanks. I was in Phoenix the weekend of game 6 and 7. Didn't have tickets to either game, but was there to attend the Eagles-Cardinals game on Sunday. At the end of that game my wife and I saw the stealth bomber flying over the downtown area… it gave me chills.
Had to listen to the game on what little radio reception I could get on my way back to Kingman. My wife is a D-backs fan so she was into it. Every half inning I was scanning the radio for a better reception. We did get most of the game but missed Soriano's homer off of Schilling. I sped most of the way home and managed to get us into the driveway for the bottom of the 9th inning. Of course we ran in the house and caught the action on TV.
Incredible moments followed that led to me and my wife jumping up and down in the living room scaring the crap out of the cat.
While I have no love for the Yanks, I do respect their team. Especially the team that had Paul O'neil because you knew you were in for a battle. I'm surprised that this current team couldn't get it done but I don't think they really have the leadership they used to have. Players don't go there to fill roles any longer. This and their current pitching is their downfall. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them right back in the playoffs next year.
Congrats to the Tigers, they earned it and it was more than fun to watch. A good friend of mine in Kingman is from Detroit so I was happy for him as a fan.
Oh and Joseph… How bout them Eagles!!
