There’s an amazing organization here in the Phoenix area that does wonderful work with families facing foreclosure to help them keep their pets, and rescues animals that are often abandoned when a family leaves their home.
Check out everything the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation does”¦ Financial aid, pet food bank, foster program, adoptions, rescue aid. I don’t know how many animals they saved or families they have helped. But they need our help to continue.
Their mission is simple:
Our mission is to be a source for real estate professionals and others when they encounter a pet in need. To rescue, rehome, and advocate for pets that have been abandoned or left behind due to foreclosure or eviction. To provide options for families to keep their pets if hard economic times are making it difficult to keep or care for their pet, and to promote spaying and neutering.
Simple, but this requires time, money, volunteers, coordination and lots of effort. And it requires lots of people that are willing and able to provide a foster home for animals.
One of our agents, Michele Guss, is a volunteer with “LOHPF”. She let me know that the foundation is in desperate need of fosters. At this point, the intake of the foundation is at a total stop until more fosters can be located.
Summer will soon be upon us. Can you imagine spending the 115 degree days out in the back yard, or wandering the streets in that kind of heat?
It’s very sad that so many animals get abandoned due to foreclosure. The critters are the forgotten victims of the housing mess.
If you’ve got the space and the means, please consider fostering an animal or two. It’ll do ya good. And Fido too.
If you can help, please contact the foundation, or complete this form.
Here’s a video that shows more about the Lost Our Home Pet Foundation”¦
You are right Jay. Summer is coming quicker than expected this year. We need to get all of our furry little friends into the AC for summer. Great info.
Thank you for posting this. I am currently a foster for Lost Our Home and it is a very rewarding experience. My little guy is named Nash and he is no trouble at all! Just a very sweet easy going dog that someone tied to a fence and left for dead. I am excited to find a forever home for him. I know that as overwhelming and heartbreaking as the abandoned pet situation is, if we all help a little bit at a time we can make a big difference! Also for anyone considering fostering for LOHPF they have a great website to post pictures and video of your foster pet along with several adoption events every week where you can take your foster pet for exposure so they get to meet as many potential new families as possible. You get to meet the potential adopters and you get to make the final decision so you know the pet you cared for and nurtured is going to the very best home.
That is a fabulous service. I'm always so angry when people don't take responsibility for their pets. It's especially sad when people are foreclosed on and leave their furry family members behind. Thanks for bringing attention LOHPF.

I love that logo. The cat looks like he's seen a ghost.
I'm sure the numbers would be staggering on the pets left in foreclosed homes. Pretty sad… Good to see there are organizations like this out there.
