Looking for something to do in Phoenix this weekend?
It may be difficult to find anything happening (said with dripping sarcasm).
In the “Hell has frozen over” category, we have the Arizona Cardinals hosting the NFC championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Glendale on Sunday. Tickets sold out in 6 minutes. Scalpers will be out in force (scalping is legal in Arizona – if done in person, it must take place at least 200 feet from the event. I guess the world tips off-axis if someone scalps a ticket at say 193 feet from the event).
The lowest face-value ticket is $120. Online sellers have been asking up to $1,000. But, you may be able to get a “deal” if you’re willing to wait until kickoff (or shortly after). It’s a economics thing. The scalper paid for a ticket. Come kickoff, they have two choices — sell that ticket or eat the cost entirely. They’ll sell them.
P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n Roll Marathon is also on Sunday. Here’s a fitness tip — it’s too late to start training. It will be quite the spectacle though as last year over 27,000 runners competed in the marathon and half marathon. Live music at every mile, perfect weather, and lots of festivities will make this interesting. Expect traffic in parts of Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe to be totally whacked from closed roads. Here is a course map:
The Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction winds up its eight day run in North Scottsdale this weekend. They have some amazing automobiles up for auction (want a 1959 Corvette with only 2,902 original miles? That’ll be cheap). It’s a great place to wander around, people watch, and look at cars you’ll never be able to afford.
The Maricopa County Home & Garden Show runs all weekend at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
And then there is the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival today through Sunday. Downtown Carefree hosts this festival, and admission is only $3. Live music, 165+ artists displaying their work, and more await you.
Closer to the Phoenix East Valley, the City of Chandler’s 14th Annual Multicultural Festival is Saturday from 11am – 4pm. Lots of activities for the entire family!
What will I be doing this weekend? Tonight is the first ever Phoenix Suns Tweet-Up event! Those that Twitter (and a LOT of Phoenix people do) and who bought “Tweep tickets” to the Suns – Timberwolves game are in for a treat tonight. The Mrs. and I will be in Section 207, Row 5 — friend us up!
WOW! Wish I was there…it is -4 here in Ohio!
I "know" several twitter folks who are running in the PF Chang Marathon this weekend. It's supposed to be a well run race and lots of fun. You guys have some of the coolest road races in your area. And apparently Smash Mouth is gonna be there too. Sweet.
I'm running in the half marathon, hope to finish right around 11. You'd all better be there.
Go Cardinals! Having friends over to watch the big game, well, big game for us locals anyways. How about those Cards this year! Unbelievable isn't it? Guess their coach is earning his money… now to beat down the Eagles this Sunday, that would rock!!!

I have no interest in collector cars whatsoever, but had the BEST time at Barrett-Jackson on Friday. There is so much to do outside of bidding on cars – great food, good shopping, and as you mentioned "people watching". I think on Saturday they're offering reduced price admission for people with an Arizona ID.

Congrats on the Cardinals! This reminds me of the 1998 Falcons, I'm sure the city is going nutts!
The PF Chang Marathon sounds like a huge event! Smash Mouth preforming? Wow! I didn't know marathons could be so fun-live music at every mile sure would take your mind off the running!

As a fellow relator, I like to see what other top agents around the country are putting into their blog.
This is a great idea. Well done!

What a wonderful idea to do a post on local events taking place; you guys certainly had some great entertainment!
I just followed the link to the Marathon up above; yes, it is the one I saw on TV; though I guess it was a replay since I just saw it today. I was really amazed at how fast those runners were!

Running was never my favorite activity.
How the hell someone could resist to run a few kilometers….
Anyone can tell me the secret?

That was such an amazing run for the Cardinals. They have such an amazing offense and now they have a new element added with the powerful Chris Wells. Should be a fun year in 2009 for sure!
I've heard about the Rock and Roll marathon sounds like an awesome event. Holding a concert at the end of the marathon is a great idea. Certainly a cool way to include all the competitors and community in one event.
